Wis. Students Are In Miami For National Arts Honor

Posted Wednesday, January 9, 2013 -- 7:35 a.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Two Milwaukee students are in Miami this week after being accepted into a national arts program.

Redat Davison from Pius XI High School and Felix Ramsey, Jr. from the Milwaukee High School of the Arts are taking part in YoungArts Week. They are among 150 from across the country who were picked from 10,000 applicants.

The program, funded by the National YoungArts Foundation, is like a camp where young people take master classes, give performances and exhibitions, participate in enrichment programs and face final judging.

Davison was picked for visual arts and Ramsey was chosen for singing. Ramsey also got to perform at last year's Grammy's celebration.

This year's mentors include singer Placido Domingo, choreographer Bill T. Jones and actress Marissa Tomei.
