UPDATE: MetJet closure complicates incomplete travel

UPDATED Friday, October 25, 2013 --- 10:29 a.m.

DE PERE, Wis. (AP) -- MetJet's decision to end operations Saturday is complicating travel for some passengers who booked flights through the failed De Pere company.

MetJet sold tickets to specific destinations and contracted with Sun Country to provide airplanes and crews. MetJet CEO Michael Heisman says he understands the company has a responsibility for stranded passengers. Heisman says each case is being evaluated and depends on whether the traveler knew when they left that their return flight was not going to take place.

Press-Gazette Media says MetJet is working with an escrow management company and credit card companies to make refunds. Heisman says the process has been slow because MetJet received hundreds of claims that didn't qualify for refunds.

DE PERE, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin-based airline MetJet says it will soon stop flying.

The year-old De Pere-based airline is canceling flight operations at the end of next week.

MetJet officials say flights scheduled for Wednesday, Saturday, and Oct. 23 will continue as scheduled, but operations will halt Oct. 26.

Press-Gazette Media reports the company says it is preparing refunds for customers who qualify.

MetJet CEO Michael Heisman says in a release that looking at the months ahead, it's clear the airline does not have enough demand or customers to continue operating.

WLUK-TV reports reservations for resorts booked through MetJet are not affected.

MetJet offered flights from Green Bay to Orlando and Fort Myers, Fla.; Minneapolis and Cancun, Mexico.
