Wis. DNR Wants Comment on New Impaired Waters

Posted Sunday, April 22, 2012 --- 1:30 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State water officials are looking for public inputs on a proposal to add 99 water bodies to Wisconsin's impaired waters list.

The Department of Natural Resources says phosphorus in the water bodies exceeds state limits. But since no aquatic life has suffered and no algae blooms have appeared the agency wants to create a new category for the bodies on the impaired water list.

A list of the water bodies is available on the DNR's website. The public comment period on the plan began April 17 and will run through May 18.
