UPDATED Tuesday, July 31, 2012 --- 1:40 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The law firm hired by Republicans when they controlled the state Senate has turned over files related to work they did redrawing political boundaries in the state.

New Democratic state Senate Majority Leader Mark Miller asked for the files once Democrats took control of the Senate earlier this month.

Republican leaders worked in secret with the Michael Best & Friedrich firm to create the new boundaries last year. The law firm was paid $431,000 for its work.

The Legislature is charged with redrawing political lines, or redistricting, every 10 years. Republicans in control of the Legislature last year redrew the lines in their favor.

Two Milwaukee Assembly districts were redrawn following a federal lawsuit, but all other boundaries were left untouched.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State Senate Majority Leader Mark Miller has again asked a law firm that helped Republicans draw new legislative district lines to hand over its complete file on the service.

Republican leaders worked in secret with the Michael Best & Friedrich firm to create the new boundaries. Miller, a Monona Democrat, asked the firm for the file in March.

He has since become majority leader after Democrats seized control of the chamber in last month's recall elections. He sent the firm a letter on Wednesday renewing his request.

Senate Chief Clerk Jeff Renk says the firm has charged the Senate $231,374 for redistricting. Miller says the public deserves to see what the money bought.

A message left at the law firm's Madison offices Wednesday wasn't immediately returned.
