APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- Five Wisconsin counties are collaborating to protect Winnebago waterways.
Calumet, Fond du Lac, Outagamie, Waushara and Winnebago counties are looking for public input to identify key issues with the system that connects Lake Winnebago to Lake Poygan, Lake Winneconne, Lake Butte des Morts (BYOO'-deh-mohr) and parts of the Fox and Wolf rivers.
Zebra mussels, boat landing fees, walleye or algae blooms could be among the issues addressed. Winnebago Lakes Council president Mike Lizotte tells the Appleton Post-Cresent (http://post.cr/15LnlW8 ) one discussion could be about coordinating a multi-county boat launch pass, which has been proposed in the past.
The group is working with a $50,000 matching grant from the state Department of Natural Resources.
