Wisconsin Headlines For Wednesday Morning

Posted: Wednesday, December 26, 2012 -- 7:10 a.m.

NEENAH, Wis. (AP) -- The city of Neenah will remove lead bullets from a former firing range, clearing the way for the land to become a public park. Once the 12-acre property is cleaned up, the land will be handed over to the town of Clayton.

WABASHA, Minn. (AP) -- A Minnesota community's planning commission is approving a permit for a permanent facility to process Wisconsin sand. The Superior Sand System plant will be used to store silica sand and load it onto rail cars.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A Janesville native is becoming a brigadier general. President Barack Obama nominated Army Colonel Andrew Poppas to the rank of brigadier general. The Senate still has to confirm the nomination.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Dane County deputies tried to make Christmas a bit merrier for children who were visiting their parents in jail. Every child who visited around Christmas got a new book and a stuffed animal. It's part of an effort to give kids a positive interaction with officers.
