Wisconsin Historical Sites' Revenue, Attendance Is Up

Posted Thursday, October 11, 2012 --- 7:25 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Overall attendance and revenue is up at the Wisconsin Historical Society's 11 sites and museums in the state.

The society reports both increased about 3 percent over a year ago. Total admissions were nearly 250,000 with revenues of more than $2.2 million.

Cheryl Sullivan, administrator of the society's Division of Museums and Historic Sites, said they were pleased given the economy and that July was the hottest month on record.

Five historic sites and museums reported increased paid attendance, including Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien. Its more than 9 percent attendance increase was the highest. It also had a 15 percent jump in revenue.

Four historic sites and museums reported attendance and revenue declines, including Madeline Island Museum in La Pointe and Old World Wisconsin near Eagle.
