UPDATED Wednesday, June 11, 2014 --- 4:53 p.m.

BARRON, Wis. (AP) -- A shooting review panel has cleared two Barron County sheriff's deputies who exchanged gunfire with a fleeing suspect.

The Barron County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday that Capt. Ron Baures and Sgt. Tim Prytz were both justified in using deadly force.

Baures, a 25-year law enforcement veteran, and Prytz, a 28-year veteran, were involved in a shootout with a suspect at the end of a 10-mile chase on June 3.

A squad car forced the suspect's car into a ditch, and the driver shot at the deputies. The deputies returned fire, but no one was struck.

Deputy Jeff Wolfe, whose squad car was struck by bullets fired by the suspect, also was cleared to return to work.

The chase ended in Dunn County. The suspect remains in the Dunn County Jail.

RIDGELAND, Wis. (AP) -- A man sought by western Wisconsin authorities is in jail after exchanging gunfire with sheriff's deputies at the end of a chase.

Barron County sheriff's officials got a report Tuesday of a man walking in a field. While searching the area, authorities found a car without license plates. When a deputy tried to stop the car, the driver took off, leading deputies on a 10-mile chase into Dunn County.

During the chase authorities learned the car had been stolen from a home in Dallas, Wisconsin, and the man they were searching for was the suspect.

A squad car forced the car into a ditch, and the driver shot at Barron County deputies. The deputies returned fire, but no one was struck.

The Dunn County sheriff's office will investigate the shooting.
