MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Hundreds of high school seniors are set to gather in Ripon next month for the annual Badger Boys State program.
The eight-day gathering gets under way June 9. The boys will be divided into cities and counties. From there they'll campaign for a variety of government offices. They'll develop party platforms, pass local ordinances, set up a state patrol and a judicial system. They'll also get a chance to participate in a band and choir as well as write for the Badger Bugle Citizen, the Badger Boys State official newspaper.
Scheduled speakers include Gov. Scott Walker, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen and state Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley.
Badger Boys State began in 1939. More than 62,500 students have participated.
