Wisconsin Legislators File To Run In New Districts

Posted Friday, May 18, 2012 --- 11:55 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- More than a dozen Wisconsin lawmakers have filed paperwork with state elections officials declaring they'll run for election in a new district.

Republican legislators redrew the state's legislative districts last year. The changes fortified Republican incumbents' hold on their areas and weakened Democrats, leaving some incumbents living outside districts they've represented for years.

Officeholders have until the end of the day Friday to file paperwork with the state Government Accountability Board declaring they're not seeking re-election. As of early Friday morning, eight Assembly Democrats and five Assembly Republicans had signaled they'll run in new districts.

Six representatives who are running for another office or have already won a different office filed notice they won't seek re-election to their old positions.
