RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- A Racine woman is charged with trying to kill a police officer by swinging a butcher knife at him.
A criminal complaint says police were called to the woman's apartment in April. The building manager told officers he had received numerous calls about a fight in the apartment.
Twenty-eight-year-old Shamikia Massie partially opened her door, but refused to let officers in her apartment while cursing and yelling. One officer pushed the door open. The complaint says Massie swung an 8-inch butcher knife at him, missed and the knife plunged into a closet door. The officer punched her in the face and grabbed the knife.
The Racine Journal Times (http://bit.ly/MZBqcl ) says Massie's children were in the apartment, but were not harmed. She's charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
