From our news partner, WLUK in Green Bay:
ASHWAUBENON - Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings is getting backlash for his brainwashed comments from a business in the shadow of Lambeau Field.
The Jersey Store in Ashwaubenon is giving away about 200 items with the #85 on them. That includes adult and kid jerseys, as well as hats and t-shirts all for free.
Customers FOX 11 talked to Thursday morning were contemplating grabbing a Jennings jersey.
“Well we could use it as a door mat,” said Jack Kotleski of Racine. “Dog bed, no, no. I like my dog too much.”
When asked if Kotleski would wear the jersey, he replied, “If he came back maybe. Maybe if he came back and repented.”
The manager of The Jersey Store, Mike Walters, says the owner of the store wants the #85 items gone.
“The owner is definitely very concerned. She feels like he really stepped over the line with the brain washing comment.”
Walters says he expected the items to move because “people like free stuff,” plus with the preseason opener Friday a lot of people will coming into the store.
When Jennings played for the Packers, Walters said #85 would frequent the store.
“We had a really good relationship with him. We loved him. We’re not quite sure what happened when he put on the purple and gold?”
MINNEAPOLIS - Greg Jennings continued to talk openly about his time in Green Bay on Wednesday.
The former Packers wide receiver told Paul Allen and Ben Leber on KFAN radio in Minnesota:
“When I came over here, I was kind of brainwashed...There’s no ‘kind of’ to it. Being over in Green Bay, you’re brainwashed to think anyone in the division is tiers below. And so coming over here I meet the people within the organization and I’m like, ‘Wow, these are really great people.’"
Jennings added: "It’s like everything that you know in Green Bay is like the best, the best, the best, the best, the best,” Jennings said. “And it’s like total brainwashing. And I think you don’t open your eyes to see what other teams have to offer unless you are in that position.”
It's the latest in a series of jabs Jennings has taken at the Packers since leaving to join the Vikings via free agency. Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier has said he's told Jennings to remain focused on their team.
