Laundry System Messages College Students When Wash is Done

College students who hate hanging around the laundry room waiting for their wash to finish can now wander off and wait for a text message telling them it's done.

With the new eSuds system installed at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, students can go online to check which machines at any of the laundry rooms on campus are available. They can then use their student ID cards to pay for laundry cycles and be notified when the loads are finished.

If the laundry room is busy, the system will notify them when a machine becomes available.

School officials say the 180 machines will not only help students be more efficient, but will also save about a million gallons of water per year -- and use about 20% less electricity and natural gas.
