Friday Morning Bizarre News Headlines

SAN ONOFRE STATE BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Two goats are doing the animal equivalent of hanging 10. Goatee and Pismo are wowing California beachgoers with their surfing skills. Owner Dana McGregor says he taught his goats to surf because he loves it. He figures they would like it, too. People were amazed earlier this week as the goats were riding the waves at a Los Angeles area beach. But after a few rides Goatee had enough and swam to shore. McGregor says he originally got Goatee to eat weeds on his property.

ALABASTER, Ala. (AP) -- It's a posh park for pooches. The Birmingham, Alabama, suburb of Alabaster has a new, half-million-dollar, dog park. There are agility hoops, a path with tunnels, a field for playing fetch and water sprays for cooling off. Of course, all that fun can get your canine buddy pretty dirty, so there's even a wash station. "Modern Family" star Eric Stonestreet helped to introduce the new doggie park yesterday. It's funded with a grant from Beneful dog food.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- It's a dog fight -- over a Siberian husky-mix. Jordan Biggs and Sam Hanson-Fleming are battling in court over a dog. Biggs is an Oregon State student, who says she found the stray and named him Bear. Hanson-Fleming says the dog is his and vanished after leaping over the fence of his Portland home last year. He calls the dog Chase. Local animal control officials have sided with Hanson-Fleming. But Biggs is suing to keep Bear. She notes she's trained Bear to recognize when she's about to have an asthma attack.

BERLIN, Pa. (AP) -- A mugging suspect says there are no hard feelings. Joshua Foy is charged with trying to rob a grocery clerk. But police in Berlin, Pennsylvania, say Foy was tackled by a pair of brothers, who held him until the law arrived. You might think Foy would be pretty mad. But a local paper (Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown) reports Foy told the brothers they were just doing what they had to do. Authorities say the store clerk was on his way to make a bank deposit.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- It's one way to beat the heat. Authorities charge a Tennessee man wasn't wearing a thing while doing yard work. A Knox County deputy says Lindsay Medd Stevens was totally nude while cutting a tree in his yard. WATE-TV reports Stevens ran into his house when he saw the deputy. Stevens is now charged with indecent exposure.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- New Orleans police report they've nabbed their gator-nappers. Ten baby alligators were swiped from the Audubon Zoo before dawn on the Fourth of July. Arrest warrants in the gator caper had been issued for two men. Authorities report Kawayne Powell turned himself in and has been charged with possessing stolen property. Police say the second suspect, Rodney L. Thornton, was busted while he was trying the doors on parked cars. Eight of the 10 little gators have been returned to the zoo.
