A confused Madison couple called police Wednesday after finding trails and heaps of salt poured around their home.
They summoned officers after discovering the white substance outside of their residence on Dunning St.
They told a responding officer that a friend tasted it, and proclaimed it to be salt.
The officer says the salt was sprinkled in a trail up the couple's driveway and around their walkway, and was also poured and heaped around the entire exterior of the home.
Nobody knows why the salt was there. The couple said they didn't have any enemies. They are active in the local acting community and say they know a lot of "strange theater types," but the husband says "they are all nice."
A neighbor did some Web research and found that some believe salt protects homes from impure spirits. But the couple says they've lived there for 40 years and they've never known of any unwelcome ghosts.
