Studio to comb NM landfill for bad Atari games

Posted Tuesday, June 4, 2013 --- 12:31 p.m.

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) -- A New Mexico city commission has agreed to allow a Canadian studio to search an old landfill where old, terrible Atari games are rumored to be buried.

The Alamogordo Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1aPRzKe ) that Alamogordo commissioners will allow Fuel Industries to search the landfill for games. It has offices in Ontario, Canada, and Los Angeles.

One sought game, the E.T. video game, is thought by some gamers to be one of the worst video games of all time.

Atari paid Steven Spielberg tens of millions of dollars to license the E.T. name, and the dud of a game caused the troubled company's worth to sink even further at the time.

Alamogordo Commissioner Jason Baldwin says he played the E.T. game and it was horrible.
