From the Dane County Sheriff's Office:
Madison, WI. June 18, 2009 – Ongoing grants from the WI Department of Transportation will have a number of additional Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies out this weekend patrolling the roads.
On Friday, June 19th, several deputies working in conjunction with the traffic team will be performing a group deployment. They will focus on speed and the Move Over Law, however citations will be issued for all observed violations. There will also be a zero tolerance for seatbelt violations.
On Saturday, June 20th, Sheriff’s Deputies working the specialized OWI enforcement will be concentrating on areas like Cottage Grove where they are celebrating Firemen’s Festival. So please remember to plan ahead for a designated driver, or take advantage of the safe ride program provided at the festival.
Thus far in 2009, thirteen people have lost their lives on Dane County roads. At least four of those deaths were alcohol related. In nine of the fatalities, speed was also listed as a factor.
