SPOKANE, Wash. – The Wisconsin women’s basketball team dropped its first game of the season, falling 62-53 at Gonzaga on Friday night. Wisconsin led 31-17 with 4:13 to play in the first half but the Zags scored 11 straight to pull within three (31-28) at the half. Gonzaga led 44-42 with 11:52 to play before going on an 8-0 run to take a 52-42 lead with 8:43 remaining. The Zags upped their lead to 14 (57-43) with 4:22 to play as the Badgers could not battle back.
· Wisconsin outshot Gonzaga 40.8 percent (20-49) to 39.3 percent (24-61) from the field.
· The Badgers were led by junior Morgan Paige with 20 points while senior Taylor Wurtz added 12 points.
· UW turned the ball over 21 times as the Zags tallied 14 steals.
· The Badgers were outrebounded 38-32. Wisconsin was led Wurtz with eight rebounds.
Wisconsin wraps up its two-game road trip at Washington State on Sunday. Game time is 3 p.m. CT.
