UPDATE: Running Back Montee Ball Cited at Mifflin St. Block Party

UPDATED: Saturday, May 5, 2012 --- 5:44p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Madison police say Wisconsin running back Montee Ball has been ticketed for trespassing during the annual Mifflin Street block party.

Police spokesman Joel DeSpain says Ball was on the porch of a Mifflin St. home Saturday and a resident didn't want him there.

A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report (http://bit.ly/KzrTDQ ) says several Mifflin St. residents have posted no-trespassing signs this year, allowing police to issue tickets if unwanted people are on the property.

DeSpain says Ball was cooperative, and alcohol wasn't an issue. He was given a $429 ticket.

A message left with a school spokesman Saturday wasn't immediately returned.

The block party is an annual tradition dating back about 40 years. Police have stepped up enforcement after recent parties involved violence and excessive public drunkenness.

I am going to take a wild guess here, and assume the home owner made it a way bigger deal than it really needed to be based on who he is. Give me a break. Whiners. Oh and I am a homeowner, wouldn't have kicked him outta my house!

The only reason this made the news is because he is a Badger. No story here. Ticket was issued. He left. Big deal.

Does he think that he is so special that it does not include him?

I want to know why of the 400 tickets, Ball is the only one singled out on the news. Sometimes the media really irks me with their obsession of "celebrity" gossip.

Not a smart kid is right. Should have left when asked. Yes sports on channel 15 says it was not very serious. Why do these "adults" not listen. When you are asked to leave you leave. If he would have left there would have been no ticket. About time police in Madison do their jobs.

The no trespassing rule was very well publicized, no excuse. However, everyone who received a citation should make the news also. Not just Ball.

Doesn't having Montee Ball at your party make it cooler? Last i checked he was a pretty great running back for this cities school. But hey, what ever.

And the police have nothing better to do than issue stupid tickets like this especially when the "perp" is cooperative and alcohol isn't a factor?? Give me a break.

      A) Rules are rules, whether you're the mayor, a star athlete, or a lowly lab assistant; and B) how can you pass judgement when you only know a fraction of the story? Moral: No Trespassing MEANS NO trespassing. I for one applaud MPD for equal enforcement. Whether a "stupid ticket" or not, the law is the law. If you cut one break, where do you stop? What law is the threshold between something justifiably enforceable or just a "stupid ticket"?

You are clearly NOT a property owner. If you dont want someone on your property, it's WELL WORTH the time of the police, cooperative subject or not, alcohol related or not.
