MANKATO, Minn. – Freshman goaltender Joel Rumpel made 36 saves for his first career shutout to backstop Wisconsin (10-9-2, 5-8-2 WCHA) to a 4-0 road victory over Minnesota State (6-16-1, 2-12-1 WCHA) at Verizon Wireless Center on Friday night.
The victory, Wisconsin’s first on the road this year, gets the Badgers above the .500 mark for the first time on the season.
Sophomore Mark Zengerle scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to extend his scoring streak to 20 games, one shy of the UW record held by Mike Eaves.
Reigning WCHA Rookie of the Week defenseman Jake McCabe had two assists and now has points in three consecutive games (two goals, one assist).
Junior assistant captain and forward Ryan Little returned from a six-game absence due to injury to collect an assist.
Teams play against Saturday at 7 p.m.
