Ex-Badger Gilbert traded home to Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Wild has traded its longest-tenured player, defenseman Nick Schultz, to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Tom Gilbert.

The deal was done on Monday, hours before the NHL's trading deadline.

Schultz scored his first goal of the season on Sunday in the Wild's 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks, but he's a stay-at-home player and the Wild have been searching for more offense from the blue line. The franchise's all-time leader with 743 games played, Schultz has appeared in at least 79 games in each of the last six seasons and played in all 62 this season.

Gilbert had three goals and 14 assists in 47 games for the Oilers. The Minnesota native missed 13 games this season with a knee injury.
