MADISON, Wis. -- Freshman forward Aaron Moesch announced on Thursday his intention to redshirt the 2013-14 season for the Wisconsin men’s basketball team.
An honorable-mention WBCA Division 1 all-state honoree as a senior, Moesch played three years on the varsity squad at Green Bay Southwest, eclipsing the 1,000-point scoring plateau in his final season.
"I think in the long run, redshirting this season will really benefit me and hopefully the team,” Moesch said. “As a freshman, this season is full of adjustments and spending the year on scout team will give me the chance watch, learn and help my teammates day in and day out.”
"Instead, my job now is to get the veteran guards ready for every game and work as hard as I can in practice to prepare them."
Moesch, a native of Green Bay, Wis., will continue to practice with his teammates this season and will play as a redshirt freshman for the Badgers in 2014-15.
"Redshirting also provides me an opportunity to really get my feet wet from an academic standpoint,” Moesch added. “If everything goes right, I will graduate in four years and be able to pursue my master's degree during my fifth year. I love it here. It's truly a win-win situation."
The No. 20-ranked Badgers open the regular-season on Friday against St. John’s at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT
