Beloit, WI- Miguel Sano gave the Beloit Snappers a quick lead ripping a solo home run in the bottom of the first, his league leading ninth home run of the season. The Snappers went on to beat the Kane County Cougars, 5-1 Monday night here in Beloit. Snappers’ starter, Matt Summers had an impressive outing, going eight innings, allowing only four hits and one run. Summers picked up his second win, he’s now 2-2 for the season.
The Snappers snagged another two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single from Drew Leachman scoring Sano. Rory Rhodes then got on a sac fly scoring Eddie Rosario. Matt Koch also doubled in the bottom of the fourth.
Kane County’s starter, Scott Alexander had a rough outing, pitching five innings, allowing six hits and five runs. He was relieved by righty, Jason Mitchell, who went three innings, allowing two hits.
The Snappers added to their 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with Wang-Wei Lin reaching on an error to lead off, then J.D. Williams doubling on a fly ball to left fielder, Tim Ferguson. A.J. Pettersen then pinch hit for Adam Bryant, and scored Lin on a sac fly. While Leachman batted, Williams stole third, and later scored on a throwing error by catcher, Jin-Ho Shin putting the Snappers up 5-0.
The Cougars put up their only run in the top of the sixth with a solo home run by Murray Watts.
The Snappers picked up the win putting them ahead of the Cougars 2-1 in the four game series. The Snappers and Cougars face off for the last game of the series Tuesday night at 6:30 P.M. Pitching matchup for Tuesday night is Snappers’ lefty, Matt Tomshaw vs. Cougars’ righty, Edwin Carl.
