Wisconsin women’s hockey team releases 2013-14 schedule

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women’s hockey program announced its schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 season on Tuesday.

Highlighting the nonconference portion of the schedule is a trip to Vail, Colo., where the Badgers will face Northeastern University and Boston University on November 15-16.

In addition, Wisconsin will play 28 games against Western Collegiate Hockey Association members, including games against rivals Minnesota, Minnesota Duluth and North Dakota.

The Badgers will open up their 2013-14 season with an exhibition tilt against the Japanese Olympic Team on Sept. 24, at LaBahn Arena. Japan will make its second-ever appearance in the Winter Olympics in 2014 and are assisted by former Badger Carla MacLeod.

The regular season kicks off the weekend of October 4-6, when Wisconsin welcomes Minnesota State to LaBahn Arena for a two-game series.

The first road test for the Badgers will be a trip up north to rival Minnesota on Oct. 11-12. The Golden Gophers have captured back-to-back NCAA titles and have won 49 straight games.

Wisconsin returns home for a six-game homestand, starting with St. Cloud State on Oct. 18-19. Game times will be 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Badgers defeated the Huskies six times last season, including twice in the WCHA playoffs to advance to the WCHA Final Face-Off.

The Badgers wrap up October hosting Lindenwood University on Oct. 25-26, before concluding their six-game homestand against conference-foe Ohio State on Nov. 2-3.

After an open weekend Nov. 9-10, Wisconsin travels to the Rocky Mountains to play two games in Vail, Colo. The Badgers face Northeastern University on Nov. 15 before wrapping up the trip on Nov. 16 against Boston University. The Terriers were the NCAA runners-up a year ago.

Wisconsin concludes November with a pair of road trips. The Badgers will face North Dakota (Nov. 22-23) and Minnesota Duluth (Nov. 29-30). North Dakota ended the Badgers’ season last year in the semifinals of the WCHA Final Face-Off.

Wisconsin’s final series of the 2013 calendar year takes place on the weekend of December 6-8, when UW plays hosts to Bemidji State.

Wisconsin opens the new year on the road at St. Cloud State on Jan. 3-4, before returning home to host North Dakota for a pair of tilts the weekend of Jan. 10-12.

After a road trip to Bemidji State on Jan. 17-18, the Badgers entertain Minnesota Duluth for a two-game set the weekend of Jan. 24-26.

UW will take the first weekend off in February before hitting the road to Ohio State on Feb. 7-8.

The final regular season home series for Wisconsin takes place the weekend of Feb. 14-16 against Minnesota, and the Badgers wrap up the regular season at Minnesota State on Feb. 21-22.

The first round of the WCHA playoffs will take place Feb. 28-March 2. The best-of-three series will be held at the home of the league’s top four seeds. The winners of those series advance to the WCHA Final Face-Off in Bemidji, Minn., March 7-8.

After the WCHA Final Face-Off, eight teams from across the country will be selected to play in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The top-four seeds will host a single-elimination quarterfinals matchup with the four winners advancing the NCAA Frozen Four. The 2014 NCAA Frozen Four is hosted by Quinnipiac and will take place at High Point Solutions Arena.
