Thursday Wisconsin Sports UPDATE

Here is the latest Wisconsin sports from The AP

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- It was a golden opportunity for the Milwaukee Brewers, but it didn't happen. After the Chicago Cubs were beaten by the Florida Marlins, the Brewers had the chance to cut the first-place Cubs' lead in the Central Division race to one game. All they had to do was beat the St. Louis Cardinals, but the Cardinals pulled away to a 7-3 win at Miller Park last night. Now Milwaukee trails by two games with only four to play.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The final game this year between the Cardinals and Brewers was marred by two more hit batters and a pair of ejections. Both benches were warned about throwing at each other in the second inning after the Cardinals' Brad Thompson plunked Prince Fielder on the right shoulder with a fastball. In the eighth inning, Albert Pujols was plunked on the elbow by Brewers reliever Seth McClung, who was ejected along with Milwaukee manager Ned Yost. The Cardinals went on to score four runs with two outs, breaking the game wide open.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Brett Favre got a congratulatory phone call from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, but he says he didn't get any briefing on what the league has planned when he breaks Dan Marino's career touchdown record. He'll break Dan Marino's career mark of 420 with his next touchdown toss. The mark could fall in front of a hostile crowd at Minnesota on Sunday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Shaun Bodiford is back. The wide receiver and kick return specialist is back with the Green Bay Packers less than a month after the team released him. Bodiford hurt his knee in the preseason and was released in the Packers' final round of roster cuts. But he says the Packers told him at the time they'd like him back once he was healthy. Now it's happened.
