MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Badgers open the season tonight in Las Vegas. UNLV had one of the worst run defenses in the country last season and will face a stiff test, with 255-pound John Clay of the Badgers running behind an offensive line that averages 323 pounds.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers couldn't solve Cole Hamels last night. The Philadelphia Phillies left-hander allowed just three hits and struck out seven over seven innings as the Phillies edged the Brewers 1-0. The only run scored on an outfield mixup between Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun, who allowed a ball to drop between them for a double.
UNDATED (AP) — Quad Cities blanked Wisconsin last night in the Midwest League. Beloit defeated Clinton 8-2.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Bucks have signed second-round draft pick Darington Hobson. He averaged 16.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists over three college seasons at Eastern Utah and New Mexico. Hobson was the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Year last season and was a third-term All-American.
