Tuesday Wisconsin Sports UPDATE

Here is the latest Wisconsin sports from The AP

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- They may have a 5-and-1 record, but the Green Bay Packers know they need to make improvements during the bye week in their anemic running game. Coach Mike McCarthy says that includes picking one running back as the go-to guy, instead of continuing with the running-back-by-committee approach. Between now and the next game at Denver on October 29th, the Packers will have to decide between rookie seventh-round pick DeShawn Wynn and rookie second-round pick Brandon Jackson as the top running back.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Packers coach Mike McCarthy says tight end Bubba Franks could miss a couple weeks because of a sprained knee he suffered in Sunday's win over Washington. The team is starting its bye week, but the coach says a preliminary diagnosis is that Franks will miss the next game at Denver October 29th and possibly the November third game at Kansas City as well.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The bye week means a welcome break for Packer players. They're free to go after meetings today, but the coaches will work today and tomorrow before having Thursday, Friday and Saturday off. The staff returns to work Sunday and the players return for practice Monday.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have claimed catcher Eric Munson off waivers from the Houston Astros. In another move, the Brewers designated right-handed pitcher Mike Jones for assignment. That means the team has 10 days to trade him, release him or assign him outright to the minors.
