Agent: Brewers decline Jenkins' option
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The agent for Geoff Jenkins says the Milwaukee Brewers will decline a $9 million option for left fielder.
Agent Damon Lapa said Tuesday the Brewers gave them verbal notification, but they're still waiting for formal written confirmation.
Jenkins was drafted by the Brewers in first round in 1995. He played his entire career for Milwaukee and had been the longest tenured veteran on the team.
He slumped badly the past two seasons, including hitting .255 with 21 homers and 64 RBIs this year.
The 33-year-old Jenkins hit 212 homers for the Brewers, the second-most behind Robin Yount's 251. He earns a one million dollar buyout after reaching certain thresholds for plate appearances.
The move isn't a surprise. Jenkins received a warm ovation from fans at the last game of the season.
