Football coach accused of attacking young player

CUDAHY, Wis. (AP) -- An assistant football coach in Cudahy is accused of attacking a 12-year-old player and threatening to kill him.

The coach is barred from attending any of the Cudahy Bulldogs' practices or games. Police are recommending charges of disorderly conduct and physical abuse of a child.

A police report says the coach grabbed Ryan Mullarney by the facemask and threw him to the ground, yelling profanities and threatening his life after Mullarney injured the coach's son on a block. The coach had be forcibly restrained by other coaches.

The coach told police Mullarney performed an illegal chop block and injured his son and had done the same thing in the past. The coach told police he lost his cool.

Mullarney's mother, Lynn Brellenthin, says they'll be interviewed by the district attorney today about the incident a week ago.
