Here is the latest Wisconsin sports from The AP
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Brett Favre says it's true short passes are still the foundation for the Packers' office. But with the game on the line in each of the past two weeks, Favre has gone from short throws to deep and decisive. The Green Bay Packers have suddenly rediscovered the longball, as Favre found wide receiver Greg Jennings for late scores in victories at Denver and Kansas City. Favre says throwing the ball down the field has opened up the team's run game.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Packers practice again today in Green Bay. This week, hoping to break up the monotony of daily practice sessions, quarterbacks Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers have been holding a friendly competition. They take turns trying to throw a football through a narrow metal hoop and into a net from about 50 yards away. Rodgers got the best of Favre yesterday, putting one of his deep balls right on the money and into the net -- a feat Favre couldn't match.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Trevon Hughes and Joe Krabbenhoft scored 13 points apiece as Wisconsin beat Wisconsin-Eau Claire 74-35 Wednesday night in the Badgers' final exhibition game. Marcus Landry added 11 points for the Badgers, who cruised in both of their exhibition games. They open the regular season Sunday against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- It seems like Marquette's women's basketball team is ready for its season to begin. Last night, Paige Fiedorowicz scored a game-high 19 points, going 8-12 from the field, to help Marquette to a 80-47 victory over Cardinal Stritch. The team had a 41-29 lead over the Wolves by the end of the first half. Marquette's has its season opener against Loyola at home on Monday.
