Tuesday Wisconsin Sports UPDATE

Here is the latest Wisconsin sports from The AP

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy won't be overworking his veteran players this week, despite the short practice week before playing in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. McCarthy has been careful all season to provide extra rest and recovery time for veteran players such as left tackle Chad Clifton and cornerbacks Al Harris and Charles Woodson. With the team off to a 9-and-1 start, it appears to have worked. McCarthy says the Packers won't work out in pads this week, and their practice schedule is being cut back.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Hall of Fame center Jim Ringo, who played 15 seasons for the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, has died just two days shy of his 76th birthday. Former Packers teammate Willie Davis says Ringo, who lived in Chesapeake, Virginia, had been battling Alzheimer's. The two were inducted in the Hall of Fame together in 1981.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Tight end Travis Beckum is among three Wisconsin players earning first-team honors on the All-Big Ten football team. Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff and defensive back Jack Ikegwuonu also made it.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Whenever Wisconsin Lutheran's players needed a spark this year, they turned to linebacker Damon Campbell. And he always delivered, combining intensity with a sense of humor to fire up his teammates. Campbell has been named the 2007 Associated Press Wisconsin Player of the Year. Arrowhead's Tom Taraska was voted AP Wisconsin Coach of the Year.

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) -- The Marquette men's basketball had to hang on to beat Chaminade at the EA Sports Maui Invitational tournament in Hawaii. The 11th-ranked Golden Eagles play Oklahoma State today in semifinals.
