Wisconsin, Washburn wrangling in court over 'W' logos

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- This legal dispute is brought to you by the letter 'W'.

UW Madison is suing a Kansas university over the its trademarked 'W' logo.

Washburn University in Topeka uses a 'W' to promote its athletics teams.

Wisconsin's trademark infringement lawsuit alleges Washburn's 'W' is too similar to the Badgers' logo.

The lawsuit attempts to bar Washburn from using the letter and seeks compensation for profits Washburn earned on its logo, as well as punitive damages.

UW Madison has aggressively defended the logo used by its athletic teams since 1990, but it has never taken another school to court, until now.
