Heads of NFL, Big Ten networks to testify on cable proposal

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Both sides of the ongoing conflict between cable providers and the NFL and Big Ten networks will line up Thursday in Madison.

They are appearing at a public hearing before a state Senate committee on a proposal designed to resolve the dispute.

Wisconsin and a handful of other states think that leading both sides to arbitration is the way to solve the problem. Fans across the country have been left angry and confused when key games are on the networks and not carried by major cable companies.

The heads of both the NFL and Big Ten networks, along with a vice president of the Green Bay Packers, plan to testify in support of the bill. The head of the Wisconsin Cable Communications Association was going to speak against it.
