Big Ten Commissioner says cable deals can be done without arbitration
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany says he thinks the network's conflict with cable providers can be resolved without arbitration.
Delany is testifying Thursday on a bill in the Wisconsin Legislature that would provide arbitration to resolve the ongoing dispute with the Big Ten and NFL networks.
Delany says current negotiations with major cable companies are going nowhere. Even so, he says, the conference has a history of negotiating for TV deals and he believes a deal can still be struck.
He's not taking a position on the bill.
The NFL Network was expected to testify in support.
The state's cable industry is opposed to the measure saying the Legislature should not interfere with the free marketplace.
