Packers guards hurting going into playoffs

Print

The Green Bay Packers might be without two of their top three guards for their first playoff game, further complicating what has been a tricky position for the team all season.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said today that guard Junius Coston could miss "a couple" weeks because of the calf injury he sustained in Sunday's victory over the Lions, and guard Jason Spitz is out indefinitely with a quadriceps injury he sustained on Sunday.

Spitz is the team's best guard, and the team has been rotating Coston and Daryn Colledge at the other guard spot. If Coston can't play, Colledge will replace him. If both Spitz and Coston were to sit out, the Packers would have to dig even deeper on their bench for a less-experienced player.

The Packers will play Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12, against an opponent to be determined by the results of this weekend's first-round playoff games.
