NFL nixes Packers on the big screens

(AP) -- Marcus Theatres won't show the Green Bay Packers playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks on its big screens.

The company says the NFL has asked it not to show the game. So, Marcus canceled its plans to show it Saturday at three locations -- Brookfield, Wauwatosa and the Potawatomi Bingo Casino.

The NFL has sent cease-and-desist letters to theaters and churches in other markets that planned to show football games on large screens. The league says the showings are a copyright violation.

Marcus says it hopes to reach a long-term solution with the NFL for showing the games.

I really hope the NFL does not try to turn this sport into a pay per view or you have to buy our package (NFL Network) to view a game. It does seem like this is the direction they are leaning to. If this is the case, I would advise them to look at what has happened to heavy weight boxing. A person used to be able to watch the prize fight on network t.v. and since they have went to pay per view this sport has been for the most part, ignored by everyone. Case in point, who is the IBC, WBC heavy weight champion? Heck I have no clue!! Take notice NFL, it may just be your sport, that in 10 years, we will be asking the question, who is the current Super Bowl Champions??
