GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Mike McCarthy's name wasn't on everybody's list of "hot" assistant coaches when the Green Bay Packers hired him two years ago. Even now that McCarthy has led the Packers to a 13-3 record and a playoff game against Seattle at Lambeau Field on Saturday, people still don't know very much about him. That's no accident. In a profession where some strive to become the next media-anointed mastermind, McCarthy tells The Associated Press he prefers to have the public eye focus on his players.
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Jerel McNeal scored 14 points, Dominic James added 13 and Dan Fitzgerald hit a key 3-pointer in the closing seconds to lead 15th-ranked Marquette to a 61-56 men's basketball victory over Seton Hall in Milwaukee last night. Their 11th straight home win helped the Golden Eagles (12-2, 2-1 Big East) rebound from a tough loss at West Virginia on Saturday when they had trouble generating offense against the Mountaineers' zone.
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Essence Carson scored 17 points and Epiphanny Prince added five of her 17 points on free throws down the stretch to lead No. 5 Rutgers past Marquette 65-61 in women's college basketball in Milwaukee last night. Krystal Ellis scored 15 points and Angel Robinson added 13 for Marquette (9-6, 1-1).
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Charlie Bell and Mo Williams each scored 21 points and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the struggling Philadelphia 76ers 87-83 last night in Philadelphia. Milwaukee has won three of four since the calendar turned, including all three games away from home.
