Mike McCarthy has confirmed tonight that he's finishing up a contract extension with the Green Bay Packers.
The coach declined to discuss the details. He says the contract is a work in progress, and he feels good about the progress he and team officials have made.
McCarthy had one year left on his original deal. He was hired two years ago yesterday.
In his first season as a head coach the Packers went 4-8. Since then, the 44-year-old McCarthy has won 18 of his last 21 games.
Green Bay went 13-3 this season.
With Saturday's 42-20 playoff win over Seattle, the Packers are in the NFC championship game for the first time since the 1997 season.
