The New England Patriots Headed to Super Bowl

Posted 5:30pm - Sunday January 20

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- The New England Patriots are headed back to the Super Bowl. The Patriots, winners of three of the last six Super Bowls, advanced with a 21-12 win over San Diego.

The Patriots got two touchdown passes from Tom Brady, one to Jabar Gaffney and one to Wes Welker, and a 1-yard touchdown run by Laurence Maroney while the Chargers got four field goals from Nate Kaeding.

Brady's completions to Gaffney and Welker were from 12 and 6 yards out. He finished the game with the two scores, three interceptions and 209 yards passing.

San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson started the game but wasn't able to stay in. He, along with quarterback Philip Rivers, were hurt in last week's win over Indianapolis. Rivers was able to play against the Patriots and finished 211 yards passing and two picks.

New England enters the NFL Championship game in two weeks in Arizona with a perfect 18-and-0 record.
