Wisconsin Women's Hockey team on cruise control

MADISON, Wis.
Behind 22 saves from senior goaltender Jessie Vetter and goals from four different Badgers, the Wisconsin women’s hockey team defeated St. Cloud State 4-1 at the Kohl Center Friday afternoon.

Kyla Sanders (Fort Myers, Fla.), Mallory Deulce (London, Ontario), Jinelle Zaugg (Eagle River, Wis.), and Kelly Nash (Bonita, Calif.) all recorded goals for Wisconsin (17-6-2, 13-4-2 WCHA) who extended their season-long winning streak to 7 games.

The Badgers got off to a quick start as they were able to notch the game’s first goal just 8 seconds into the contest. St. Cloud State won the face-off, but Jasmine Giles (Ottawa, Ontario) won the puck back for Wisconsin before feeding it to Sanders who scored, giving the Badgers an early 1-0 lead. The goal was the fastest to start a game as well as the fastest to start a period in Wisconsin women’s hockey history, besting the previous record of 11 seconds held by former Badger Linsday Macy.

UW will look to tally its eight-straight victory as the Badgers and the Huskies wrap up their series tomorrow afternoon at the Kohl Center at 1 p.m. Fans are invited to help ‘Fill the ‘Bowl’ as three local businesses will donate $1 for every fan in attendance to Second Harvest Foodbank.
