It had been more than 42 years since the Monroe boys basketball team had last won back-to-back conference championships. Thanks to a 62-54 win against Verona on Monday night, the Cheesemakers won their second straight Badger South title.
With Monroe senior Brett Stangel out of the line-up due to a hairline fracture in his leg, his teammates stepped up. Mitch Tordoff led the way with 21 points while Bryan Tordoff and Tony Cates each scored 12 as the Cheesemaker lead grew to as many as 18 points in the second half.
The Cheesemakers finish conference play at 12-0 and improve to 18-1 overall. Monroe will host unbeaten Northern Badger Conference Champion Waunakee on Thursday.
