Junior goaltender Shane Connelly earned a share of this week's WCHA Defensive Player of the Week Award. Connelly shares the award with Denver goaltender Peter Mannino.
Connelly, a 5-9, 177-pound junior from Cheltenham, Pa., earned Winter Carnival/John MacInnes Cup MVP honors while keying a strong team defensive effort as Wisconsin earned a 1-1 overtime tie and 4-1 victory over host Michigan Tech last Friday and Saturday at John MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Mich.
Connelly stopped 46 of 48 shots on goal in the series for a .958 saves percentage, posted five shutout periods (inc. one overtime), and allowed just one even-strength goal as the Badgers killed 11 of MTU’s 12 power-play chances.
Over his last nine contests now, Connelly sports a 5-1-3 record, a 1.62 goals-against average, and a .937 saves percentage.
For Connelly, it is his second weekly award of the season. He won WCHA Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 12 after a shutout of North Dakota.
