For the second straight night, the Edgewood hockey team almost let one slip away. Leading Appleton two-nothing in the WIAA State Semifinals, the Crusaders quickly saw their lead disappear as Appleton tied things at two.
With less than five minutes to play, Edgewood freshman Gage Maurer came up with the game-winning goal, beating Appleton goalie Josh Lehr with a top-shelf wrister. The Crusaders hung on for the 3-2 win. Cody Strang and Robert Parman scored the other goals for Edgewood.
The Crusaders will play unbeaten Eau Claire Memorial Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:30 for the WIAA State Championship.
