Lady Badgers advance in WCHA Playoffs with huge win

Behind two goals from sophomore Meghan Duggan and Jessie Vetter’s 10th shutout of the season, the No. 5 Wisconsin women’s hockey team (26-7-3, 20-5-3 WCHA) defeated Minnesota State (11-21-2, 10-16-2) 5-0 Saturday night in game two of their best-of-three WCHA first round series at the Kohl Center.

With the win, the Badgers advance to the WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF March 8-9 at the DECC in Duluth, Minn. Top-seeded Minnesota Duluth and No. 2 seed Minnesota also posted series sweeps and will join the Badgers in Duluth. The fourth team will be the winner of Sunday's deciding game between St. Cloud State and Ohio State.

Junior goaltender Jessie Vetter (Cottage Grove, Wis.) was stellar in net as she turned away all of the 16 shots she faced. Vetter’s career record is now 54-9-5 with 24 career shutouts.
