Badger men's basketball head coach Bo Ryan was named District 11 Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the NABC announced Tuesday. Ryan led the Badgers to the outright Big Ten championship and a school-record 16 conference wins this season.
The 26 wins are second-most in school history, trailing only last year’s 30-win campaign.
The Badgers lead the country in scoring defense, allowing just 54.3 points per game. That is the fourth-lowest total in school history and lowest since 1949-50. UW has won 20 of its past 22 games.
The Badgers earned the No. 1 seed in this week's Big Ten tournament for the third time in the last seven years. In the prvious two occasions the Badgers lost in the first round. The Badgers will play either Iowa or Michigan on Friday at 11 a.m. CT.
