The Cheesemakers girls basketball team is the bringing the gold ball back to Monroe for the second time in three years.
Monroe beat Freedom Saturday afternoon in the Division Two State Title game, 42-34. Emily Rufenacht led the Cheesemakers with 13 points while Kyleigh Sellnow added 11. Ashley Hermanson contributed with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Monroe got out to an 11-point lead in the third quarter, but the Irish would cut the deficit to three early in the fourth. The Cheesemakers responded as Hermanson hit back-to-back baskets. Monroe's defense would do the rest, holding Freedom to just 15 of 47 shooting from the field.
