MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers added a famous name with one of their later picks in today's first-year player draft.
With one of their second-round selections they chose Cutter Dykstra, son of former big leaguer Lenny Dykstra. He was the 54th overall pick.
The senior at Westlake High in California is projected to play center field -- just like his father, whose hard-nosed play earned him the nickname "Nails" over 12 seasons with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.
One pick earlier, the Brewers took Seth Lintz, a right-hander from Marshall County (Tenn.) High. With the 62nd overall pick later in the round, Milwaukee selected another right-hander, Thomas Adams from Southern Illinois University.
Milwaukee's first pick, the 16th overall, was Canadian player Brett Lawrie, drafted as a catcher.
The high school senior at Brookswood in British Columbia also plays for the Langley Blaze of the B.C. Premier Baseball League. He is a right-handed hitter known for his power.
The Brewers took pitchers with their two selections in the supplemental first round. They took Highland, Illinois, High School right-hander Jake Odorizzi with the 32nd overall pick, and University of San Francisco left-hander Evan Frederickson with the 35th overall pick.
Earlier Thursday, the Oakland Athletics used the 12th overall pick to take University of Miami second baseman Jemile Weeks, younger brother of Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks.
