McCarthy says Favre to have ankle surgery soon

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy says quarterback Brett Favre will have ankle surgery in the next few weeks.

Favre was supposed to have the procedure on his sore left ankle the day after the season ended. But he skipped it and had yet to reschedule.

McCarthy commented today as he and daughter, Alexandra, took a V-I-P tour of the garage area at Daytona International Speedway,

McCarthy says having surgery soon will give the three-time M-V-P plenty of time to recover for the team's upcoming minicamps.

The Packers' optional offseason workout program begins March 19th. McCarthy was pleased with attendance last year, and is hoping for even more participation from players this year.
