The University of Wisconsin volleyball team opened its spring season, going 1-1-1 at the Iowa State Spring Tournament in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday.

The Badgers started the day by splitting with Creighton, winning the first game 30-26 before losing the second 30-24. Wisconsin swept UMKC in the second match 30-18, 30-17. The UW wrapped up the day with 30-27, 30-20, 30-22 loss to host Iowa State. The Badgers won the fourth game against the Cyclones 33-31.

“We had flashes of good play but couldn’t maintain our consistency,” said UW coach Pete Waite. “We definitely improved by the end of the day.”

Freshman Brittney Dolgner led the UW with 29 kills on the day and also added 23 digs. Freshman Caity DuPont started in the other left side position, putting down 26 kills. Freshman Katherine Dykstra played on the right side, contributing 17 kills and three blocks.

Junior Maya Carroll started at the open middle blocker slot and led the team with a .270 hitting percentage. She also added 15 kills.

Junior Jocelyn Wack led all defensive players with 28 digs while junior Megan Mills had 21 saves.

Junior Taylor Reineke led the team with five blocks.

The two Badger setters split duties on the day with junior Jackie Simpson and redshirt freshman Nikki Klingsporn both seeing action. Klingsporn was especially effective at the serving line, scoring a team-high eight aces with her jump serve.

Wisconsin continues its spring season by hosting UW-Milwaukee on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the UW Field House. Admission is free.
