The University of Wisconsin women’s golf team is in 14th place after the first two rounds of play Saturday at the Mountain View Collegiate at the par-72, 6,126-yard Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
As the teams played the first 36 holes on Saturday, the Badgers followed their first round of seven-over par 295 with a 12-over par 300 in the second round. Wisconsin is currently 19 strokes over par after recording a score of 595, which is season-best team total for 36 holes. The Badgers trail first-place Nebraska by 23 strokes entering tomorrow’s final round.
Junior Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.) leads the Badgers after two rounds of play. In round one, Elliott shot a one-under par 71 to finish just two strokes off the lead. Elliott followed up a front-nine 35 with a back-nine 36. In round two, Elliott fired a five-over par 77 to fall back into a tie for 35th. For the tournament, Elliott is four-over par with a 148.
Sophomores Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) and Isabel Alvarez (Gijon, Spain) are both tied for 43rd. Dahl, who recorded a three-over par 75 to tie for 40th after round one, carded a two-over par 74 in the afternoon round. For the tournament Dahl is five-over par with a 149, one stroke off her career-best for 36 holes. Alvarez had the reverse of Dahl’s scores. In round one, Alvarez recorded a career-best 74 and followed it up with a 75 in round two. Alvarez is also at a five-over par 149, a career-best for 36-holes.
Jill Ries, a senior from Middleton, Wis., is tied for 66th place after the first 36 holes of play. Ries shot an opening-round seven-over par 79 to start off in a tie for 77th place. She followed that up with a by tying her season-low of two-over par 74 to move up to her current spot. Ries tied her season-best for 36-holes with a score of nine-over par 153.
Freshman Kelsey Verbeten finds herself in a tie for 75th place. The Green Bay, Wis. native tied a career-low as she shot an opening round three-over 75 to join Dahl in a tie for 40th place. She slipped to 75th after shooting a eight-over par 80 in the second round. Verbeten has a two-round total of 11-over par 155.
Elaine Harris of Indiana and Kendall Dye of Oklahoma are tied for the individual lead as they both sit at five-under par with a 139.
The Badgers return to action tomorrow morning for the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate.
